Thus, the Philippine government operates a nationwide institution established to respond to the information needs of the citizenry.
This institution is the PHILIPPINE INFORMATION AGENCY,created in 1986 by virtue of Executive Order 100 signed by former President Corazon C. Aquino.

MISSION
To provide people with adequate information to help them to make better decisions and identify opportunities that could improve their quality of life.
FUNCTIONS
Maintains information centers in the regions and in the provinces
Plans and carries out national information programs
Assists other government agencies in carrying out their communication and information projects
Determines information needs of the people
Professionalizes government information officers, communicators, and other media personnel through training and skill enhancement programs
Supports the development of indigenous media and of communication capability and technology

PIA PROGRAMS
The Research and Planning Programs
The PLANNING and COMMUNICATION RESEARCH Division performs the listening
functions of the government to determine the information needs of its clientele.
The MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS Division facilitates the data storage
and retrieval for sound institutional decision-making and delivers information to the
public using ICT.
The Institutional Development Program
The INTER-AGENCY PROJECTS Division serves as the Agency’s frontline coordinator
with government, NGOs and international organizations for funded projects that promote
national development.
The HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Division upgrades skills of communication
professionals through training and/or consultancy. It also takes charge of the
personnel management requirements of the Agency.
The Information Production and Dissemination Program
The PRINT MEDIA Division conceptualizes and develops the print media requirements
of the Agency and other goverment offices.
The NATIONAL BROADCAST Division conceptualizes,produces, and disseminates
radio and TV information materials in support of government goals and policies.
The SPECIAL MEDIA preserves, develops, and promotes the use of folk media through
puppetry, stage plays, photo essays and exhibits, billboards, in advocating development
communication projects.
Regional Operations
The CLUSTER INFORMATION offices, AREA`MANAGEMENT AND PROVICIAL
OFFICES disseminate government programs and projects in the countryside. They also
coordinate with, and assist other government regional and local offices in carrying out
their information and communication programs and projects.
The REGIONAL OPERATIONS Division coordinates the countrywide PIA operation
with the Central Office.
Administrative and Finance Program
The ADMINISTRATIVE and FINANCE Division is mainly responsible for the provision
of economical, effective and efficient support services to the various units of the Agency
and for the administration and control of its resources.
